Propagation
Runs aggressively via chains of plantlets; snip and replant daughters to direct the spread, or let it colonize.
Frequently asked questions
How quickly will chain swords carpet my foreground?
In a fertile substrate with solid medium light, a handful of starter plants can cover a couple of square feet in two to three months — runners appear within weeks of planting. Without root nutrition the spread slows dramatically, so root tabs are the cheapest accelerator.
Why is my chain sword growing taller than expected?
In lower light the leaves stretch to five inches or more, reaching for energy. Stronger light keeps rosettes squat at two to three inches and brings out a reddish-bronze tint. If it has already stretched, improve the light and trim — new growth comes in shorter.
