Frequently asked questions
Will rabbit snails eat my plants?
Mostly no, with one famous exception: many rabbit snails develop a taste for Java fern and will slowly shred it, while ignoring everything else in the tank. Keep them well fed with sinking wafers and vegetables, and consider the Java fern a calculated risk.
Why is my rabbit snail not moving in my unheated tank?
Rabbit snails come from tropical lakes that never drop below the mid 70s, and below about 74°F they go sluggish, stop eating, and slowly decline. They genuinely need a heater — treat them like a tropical fish, not like a hardy pond snail.
How fast do rabbit snails breed?
Very slowly. A female produces one (occasionally two) live babies roughly once a month, and juveniles take a year to reach full size. A pair will give you a handful of offspring per year — collectors consider every baby an event, not a problem.
